Israeli Film Series Continues With Three Films From the Ma'ale Film School To Be Screened on Feb. 19

Three films produced by students at the Ma’ale School of Television, Film and the Arts in Jerusalem will be screened at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 19 in Dining Room A, located on the sixth floor of the Library’s James Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave. S.E., Washington, D.C. The event is free and open to the public; no tickets are required.

The films include "Cheftzi on Air" (22 min.), a romantic tale about a radio broadcaster; "A Jerusalem Tale" (14 min.), an emigration story about an elderly couple who move to Israel; and "Evacuation Order" (16 min.), a romantic comedy.

Filmmaker Katie Green, a graduate of the Ma’ale School and now its head of public relations, will lead a discussion following the screening.

Established in 1989, the Ma’ale School of Television, Film and the Arts in Jerusalem trains filmmakers to produce works inspired by and linked to their Jewish heritage, fostering a unique connection between the world of media and Jewish culture. The school aims to build bridges between Jewish tradition and social experience, as well as between the religious and secular worlds. Over the past two decades, the Ma’ale School has brought a new and authentic voice to Israeli cinema. Ma’ale films are screened at festivals, conferences and educational institutions all over the world and have won many prestigious prizes. For more information about the school, go to www.maale.co.il/default_en.asp.

The Israeli Film Series, which began in February 2006, is sponsored by the Library’s Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division and the Hebrew Language Table in cooperation with the Embassy of Israel.

Since 1997, the Embassy of Israel has been presenting the Library with moving-image material to complement more than 100 items in the Library’s Embassy of Israel collection. First presented to the Library in 1997 by Ambassador Eliahu Ben-Elissar, the collection is made possible under the terms of a Feb. 19, 1950, agreement between the United States and Israel (Treaties and Other International Acts Series 2169), under which the official publications of Israeli government agencies are made available through the Library of Congress.
