Second $1 Million Kluge Prize for Lifetime Achievement in the Humanities and Social Sciences To Be Awarded on Dec. 8 at Library of Congress
WHAT: Librarian of Congress James H. Billington will present the 2004 John W. Kluge Prize for Lifetime Achievement in the Humanities and Social Sciences to historian Jaroslav Pelikan and philosopher Paul Ricoeur, who will share the 1 million dollar prize.
WHEN: Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m.
WHO: Jaroslav Pelikan will deliver remarks and receive the award in person. Paul Ricoeur will deliver remarks through a videotaped presentation, and David Pellauer, professor at DePaul University and one of Paul Ricoeur's translators, will accept the award in his name.
WHERE: Coolidge Auditorium, Thomas Jefferson Building, 10 First St. S.E., Washington, D.C.
The event is open to invited guests and the press. The doors to the Coolidge Auditorium will open at 6:30 p.m.
Members of the press should call Helen Dalrymple or Jill Brett in advance in order to secure reserved seating for the ceremony. The event will also be broadcast live on the Library's Web site at www.loc.gov.
