The Library of Congress hosted the first International Summit of the Book and began what library leaders envision as an annual global meeting of minds to discuss and promote the book as a crucial format for conveying societies' scholarship and culture. The morning of Day Two included remarks and presentations by James H. Billington, Walter Dean Myers, John Y. Cole, Sir Harold Evans, Jim Leach, Carla D. Hayden, Ira Silverberg, Maria Pallante, Tom Allen, James S. Shapiro and Peter Jaszi.
