5 — The Northern Virginia Partnership - Beginning March 5, 2013
TPSNVA will launch a series of five after school specials (4:30 – 6:00) for teachers. Thematic specials are designed to give teachers easy access to pre-prepared primary source sets and lesson plans from the Library of Congress.
- March 5 – Create Practice DBQs for SOL Review from the Vast Resources of the Library of Congress
- April 2 - Find Library of Congress Resources to Teach about Native Americans in American History
- April 9 – Using Photographs from the Library of Congress to Teach Change over Time
- April 23 – Accessing Digitized Primary Sources of World War I, World War II and the Cold War from the Library of Congress
- April 30 – Book Backdrops Finding primary Sources from the Library of Congress to add context to Fiction and Non-Fiction

- Inform teachers and administrators about the primary sources and instructional materials available at the Library of Congress that will support the integration of the Common Core State Standards.
- Introduce the analysis of primary source materials.
- Orient participants to the Library of Congress online resources and announce workshops available with TPS-GSU
- Link materials and strategies to the Illinois Learning Standards and Common Core State Standards.

4 — The Northern Virginia Partnership - Academic Classes
TPSNVA, the Northern Virginia Partnership, is offering a series of five classes to Advanced Academic Language Arts teachers. The classes focus on the value of teaching with primary resources from the Library of Congress and activity ideas from TPSNVA to help teachers emphasize non-fiction and research and move toward full implementation of new English Standards in Virginia.
