Philippe Halsman's photographs are protected by copyright. Privacy and publicity rights may also apply.

Access: Permitted; subject to P&P policy on serving originals.

Reproduction (photocopying, hand-held camera copying, photoduplication and other forms of copying allowed by "fair use"): Restricted. In providing photographs for the Library's collections, the Halsman estate has stipulated that photographic reproductions for "fair use" purposes may not be made without the written permission of the estate. While the estate allows xerox copies to be made without its permission, P&P's policy on copying prohibits xeroxing of original photographs in the Halsman collection.

Publication and other forms of distribution: Restricted. Mr. Halsman's photographs are restricted by copyright. Works created after January 1, 1978 are protected for the author/creator/copyright holder's life plus 70 years. In addition, in providing photographs for the Library's collections, the Halsman estate has stipulated that Halsman's photographs may not be published without the estate's permission. Privacy and publicity rights may also apply. The Halsman estate's address is:
