Partnership arrangements with trade and university publishers are vital aspects of the Library of Congress publishing program. The Publishing Office works with curators, subject specialists, and other scholars to develop ideas for new projects and proposals for consideration by potential co-publishers. Our editorial team works closely with authors to facilitate the completion of top-quality work, handling such responsibilities as developmental editing, fact checking, obtaining and organizing high-resolution images and permissions, indexing, and copy editing. We also work with the Library’s public affairs office and the Library Shop to amplify the outreach and marketing efforts of our co-publishing partners, especially when publishing works to accompany major public exhibitions.

These mutually beneficial arrangements are central to the Library’s mission to serve the public. Each partnership arrangement is carefully structured to meet the needs of both parties.

Publishers or editors who wish to explore partnership opportunities may contact the Publishing Office.
