Books & Beyond program. Lt. Gen. Julius W. Becton, Jr., U.S. Army (Ret.) will discuss and sign his new book, Becton: Autobiography of a Soldier and Public Servant (Naval Institute Press, 2008).

April 29 (Tuesday), 6:00 p.m., Montpelier Room, Madison Building
Books & Beyond program. Author Bill McKibben will discuss and sign his book, American Earth: Environmental Writing Since Thoreau (The Library of America, 2008). Cosponsored with The Library of America.

May 6 (Tuesday), 12 noon, LJ 119, Jefferson Building
Books & Beyond program. Madeleine Albright will discuss and sign her new book, Memo to the President: How We Can Restore America’s Reputation and Leadership (Harper, 2008).

May 8 (Thursday), 12 noon, Pickford Theater, Madison Building
Sunil Iyengar, Director of Research & Analysis at the National Endowment for the Arts, will discuss that agency’s report “To Read or Not To Read: A Question of National Consequence.”

May 12 (Monday), 10 a.m., LJ 119, Jefferson Building
River of Words awards ceremony for winners of the 2007-2008 environmental poetry and art contest for young people. Hosted by Robert Hass, U.S. Poet Laureate, 1995-1999.

May 22 (Thursday), 12:30 p.m., Pickford Theater, Madison Building
Books & Beyond program. Adam Clymer, former chief Washington correspondent for the New York Times, will discuss and sign his new book, Drawing the Line at the Big Ditch: The Panama Canal Treaties and the Rise of the Right (University Press of Kansas, 2008).
