After Churchill's defeat in the 1945 British general elections, his wife Clementine told him, "It may well be a blessing in disguise." Churchill replied, "At the moment it seems quite effectively disguised." This photograph shows Clementine and her daughter Mary leaving the Prime Minister's residence at 10 Downing Street on July 27, the day after Churchill tendered his resignation from office to the King.
